We live in a world where we are expected to perform at our maximum and do it all with great speed and perfection. Even when you do what you think is your best, at an adequate pace and with few or no errors, you have others who will criticize you or you have the tendency to think less of yourself. Yes, you want to hear that the work you do is great, fine, even good enough; that as an employee, employer, daughter, son, sibling, partner, you are great, fine, even good enough. Is this possible? Does your best friend get more of your care than you give yourself?
A difficult reality to accept is that you have no control over what others think about you and how they want you to be. What you DO have though is the capacity to choose how you relate to their words, their thoughts, their feelings toward you. Stress, anxiety and discouragement are uncomfortable AND helpful signals that invite you to make the changes that will bring you calmness, inner peace, and hope.
Dr. Glo McArter has guided individuals, couples and groups for many years to experience new possibilities for more worthiness of self and between others. Her website can be accessed at www.thewisdomofworth.com
