Women in Trades Training is an initiative co-funded by the Federal and Provincial Governments and sponsored by the B. C. Industry Training Authority (ITA).
It assists women:
- To become ready for trades employment
- To register as an apprentice or
- To gain a credential in an ITA Industry Training Program
Program Description
- Pre testing for interest, aptitudes and basic skills.
- Financial support is provided while attending workshops
- Basic safety gear is supplied
- Supportive learning environment and state of the art workshop facility
- Guided by trade qualified and professional facilitators
5 weeks of Skills Enhancement Workshops:
- Trades Exploration
- Team Building
- Health and Fitness
- Stress Management
- Time Management
- Trades Math
- First Aid Level 1
- WHMIS
- Safety Awareness
- Trade School Field Trips
- Resume and Cover Letters
- Guest Speakers
» 2 weeks of hands on training in a Trade school or on a job site
» 1 week job feedback
» 2 weeks of program follow up
Program Eligibility
- Limited Job Skills, but eager to learn
- Not in receipt of regular EI benefits in the past three years or of maternity EI benefits in the past five years
- ELSA level 4 or proficiency in written and spoken English
- Physically fit
- Have not attained a high school diploma or recognized certification
