Discovery to Apprenticeship (DTA) offers youth, who are between the ages of 15 and 30, the information and experience that will assist them in making a solid career decision. This program offers a hands-on opportunity to try out various trades such as carpentry, painting and decorating, masonry trades, transportation and metal/welding trades. DTA is funded by Services Canada and provides youth with 21 weeks of training and work experience. The program includes: - 3 weeks Employability Skills
- 7 weeks of Trades Training
- 11 weeks Work Experience
Youth will receive the following certificates: - Fork Lift
- First Aid
- WHMIS
- Math Testing (CAAT)
- Fall Protection Safety
- Respirator Use
- Ladder Safety/Scaffolding
- Other occupation specific safety certificates
Eligible Youth will be: - Between the ages of 15 and 30 (inclusive) at the time of intake selection
- In need of assistance to overcome employment barriers
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Committed to the program
- Not in receipt of (EI) benefits
- Incomplete secondary education
- Referred by a Case Manager
To apply: - Register with an Employment Resource Centre and receive a referral from a Case Manager
- Attend a DTA Information Session
- Arrange an interview time with DTA personnel following the Information Session. Bring your resume if you have one
Program Dates:
- Intake #1 April 19 to September 10, 2010
- Intake #2 July 19 to December 10, 2010
- Intake #3 October 25, 2010 to March 18, 2011
