Women in Trades Training is an innitiative sponsored by the Industry Training Authority (ITA). It assists women: - To become ready for trades employment
- To register as an apprentice or,
- To gain a credential in an ITA industry training program
Program Description Financial support provided while attending workshops. Basic safety gear is supplied. Supportive learning environment, guided by professional facilitators and coordinated by certified trades people 5 weeks of skills enhancement workshops - 2 weeks of hands on training in a Trade school or on a job site
- 1 week job feedback
- 2 weeks of program follow up
Women in Trades is offered in three locations: - New Westminster
- Prince George
- Kelowna
Project activities will include: - Pre-testing for interest, aptitudes and basic skills
- Skills enhancements in essential skills as required in numeracy, reading comprehension and decision making skills
- Job readiness assistance including Safety orientation and awareness training, WHMIS training and First Aid training
- Employment counselling and Services including: identifying appropriate trades employment options, employment expectations and employment site protocol
- Workplace Training and Assessment opportunities involving job shadowing
- Mentorship and counselling of participants towards employment and registration as an apprentice or achieving trade credentials
- Preparation for attending foundation training at colleges and/or trades schools
Program Eligibility - Limited Job Skills, but eager to learn
- Not in receipt of EI benefits in the past three years
- ELSA level 4
- Have not attained a high school diploma or recognized certification
